All powerful brands have this one thing in common.
The lesson I learned when even the founder's mom was confused
It started with a joke.
"Maybe we should just print the logo on a T-shirt and sell that."
I said it out loud. Half kidding.
But no one laughed.
We were in my buddy’s office. MacBook open. Mood board on the wall. Logo files everywhere. We’d spent three weeks building what we thought was a brilliant brand.
And yet, we were struggling with a simple task: Explaining what the business actually did.
Investors didn’t get it. Customers didn’t get it. Heck, his own mother didn’t get it. That’s when my buddy dropped the line that hit me like a truck:
“Maybe we got obsessed with how it looks. And forgot to figure out what it means.”

Oof.
Because that was me, not long ago. I used to think branding was just design. Fonts. Colors. Logos. Decks that slapped.
I thought: if it looks sharp, it sells.
Spoiler: It doesn’t.
After working with 150+ companies, from garage hustlers to funded beasts — I saw the truth.
The brands that stand out? Didn’t stand out on design. They stood out on clarity.
They could answer:
Why do we exist?
Who is this really for?
Why should anyone give a damn?
They didn’t confuse. They connected. They didn’t chase attention. They created alignment.
They weren’t shouting louder. They were saying less — but with precision. And it changed everything.
Because branding isn’t your vibe.
It’s your verdict.
It’s what people remember when you’re not around. It’s how they explain your business to a friend. It’s the feeling they get when they hear your name.
Because branding isn’t a department. It’s a decision system. Once you get it right:
You stop rewriting your deck every 3 months
You stop over explaining your value-prop
You stop posting into the abyss hoping something lands
You build a brand with a spine. One that does the talking for you. And if that sounds like something you need? Here’s what to do next.
Curious about how to do this all? Check out The Brand Engine you can get it right now on the presale price for the next few days.
Let’s stop building brands that just look good. And start building ones that work.
