Don't Start Your Brand Strategy Without Reading This First
You gotta know how to create a win-win relationship with your audience. You must develop a brand identity that resonates with their values and needs...
So I’ve coined something new, it’s called Persuasive Branding.
Mind Blown, right?
Honestly I didn’t coin shit.
I found an article written by Brain Clark on persuasive writing and I thought, why not you know… this.
But anyway. Do you want to use branding to make your business stand out and resonate with your target audience?
Of course you do.
You're building a brand that needs to capture attention in today's crowded marketplace.
We all know how challenging it is to get noticed these days, and you want your brand to connect authentically with the audience you're aiming to serve.
It'd be great if that happened organically, but smart brand builders know it takes strategy, consistency, and expertise to create a memorable brand.
If you don’t do any of this, how on earth you can grow organically?

What is Persuasive Branding?
Persuasive branding is about creating a win-win relationship with your audience. You develop a brand identity that resonates with their values and needs...
You craft a brand promise that's compelling, but not in a manipulative way that violates marketing ethics.
It's simply about authentic positioning that makes sense to your target audience. To make your job easier, though, there are techniques that you can learn to make your brand more compelling.
Because nothing's more disappointing than having a great product or service that no one notices... learning how to build a persuasive brand not only attracts people to your business, it also keeps them loyal to your brand.
Let’s see what can be done on those lines. Here are the 9 Persuasive Branding Techniques
1. Repetition
Brand experts (like me) will tell you consistency is crucial.
It's essential in brand building, since people can't connect with your brand if they don't recognize and remember it.
Of course, there's strategic repetition and there's overkill. To stay effective, reinforce your brand message through multiple channels:
Visual identity
Brand voice
Brand story
You can also use brand touchpoints consistently across all platforms, always reinforcing your core message.
2. Reasons why
Always communicate your brand's purpose.
Research shows that consumers are more likely to connect with a brand when they understand its reason for being - even if it's simple.
This approach works because people want to know the purpose behind the brands they support.
When building your brand, always clearly communicate your 'why'.
3. Consistency
While some fear it limits creativity, consistency in branding is a crucial strength.
Inconsistent branding confuses customers and weakens trust, while consistent branding builds recognition and credibility.
Apply this to your brand by establishing clear guidelines for your visual identity and messaging, ensuring everything aligns with your core values.
Then maintain these standards across all channels, reinforcing your brand's established positioning.
People naturally look in their inner circle when deciding which brands to trust.
This psychological principle can significantly impact brand perception.
Leverage social proof through customer testimonials, industry recognition, and brand partnerships.
Incorporate these elements naturally into your brand story, from case studies to influencer collaborations, etc., etc.,
You get the idea.
5. Comparisons
Strategic brand positioning often relies on meaningful comparisons.
When you can position your brand relative to something your audience already understands, you're halfway to winning their trust.
But be strategic with comparisons. Sometimes indirect comparisons are more powerful than direct ones.
For example, instead of comparing your premium brand to competitors, compare the experience to other premium experiences your target audience values.
This is exactly what I did with my old company, El Mejor.
The whole concept was,”The Apple of Coffee”
Confusing as copy now, but I promise it worked well for me.
6. Agitate and solve
This is a powerful approach that builds deep connections.
First, demonstrate that you understand your audience's challenges. Then show how your brand specifically addresses these pain points.
This isn't about exploitation - it's about empathy and understanding.
Your brand becomes more credible when you demonstrate genuine understanding of your audience's needs.
Build trust by showing how your brand solves their problems.
Show, don’t tell.
7. Selective Positioning
Smart brands understand the power of selective appeal.
Position your brand to attract your ideal audience - whether they're ambitious professionals, eco-conscious consumers, or innovation enthusiasts.
The most successful brands don't try to appeal to everyone - they focus on connecting deeply with their specific target audience.
8. Address concerns
Has your brand ever left potential customers thinking "Yes, but..."?
That's a branding gap you need to address.
Strong brands proactively address common concerns and objections.
Anticipate and address potential brand concerns openly - it builds credibility and trust.
If you think your brand has no weaknesses, you're probably not listening closely enough to your audience.
9. Brand storytelling
This is the foundation that supports all other techniques - you must master brand storytelling.
My good friend, Epaphra is a master in that and he also has an amazing newsletter called Beyond The Story.
But why is storytelling so crucial for brands?
Because stories create emotional connections, and that's what great brands are built on.
You're not just selling - you're inviting people into a narrative they want to be part of.
Master the art of storytelling, and you'll naturally become more persuasive.
Here's the truth
Effective branding isn't about manipulation or hype. It's about authentic storytelling, genuine connection, and delivering real value.
Without strong branding, even the best businesses struggle to grow.
It's that fundamental.
As basketball legend Michael Jordan once said, "Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise."
See you on the other side. 🙌🏼
