Writing changed my business in ways I never anticipated
It began as a marketing strategy but became something much more valuable...
I was doom scrolling through X yesterday when a tweet from Kieran Drew caught my eye: "You start writing to build a brand. But then you realize how powerful it is for improving your life. At this point, it's impossible to stop."

This hit me hard because it perfectly captures the journey I've been on for the past two years.
When I first started writing online consistently, I had one goal: build recognition for my consulting business. I figured consistent content would help potential clients find me and establish some credibility in my industry.
What I didn't expect was how the act of writing itself would transform my thinking.
Here's what happened: forcing myself to write regularly meant I had to clarify my thoughts. Ideas that seemed perfectly logical in my head often fell apart when I tried putting them on paper. Writing revealed the gaps in my thinking.

I remember sitting down to document a consulting project I'd completed. As I tried explaining my process, I realized I couldn't articulate why certain strategies worked better than others. This forced me to analyze my own methods more deeply.
Three unexpected benefits emerged:
Better client conversations. When you've already worked through explaining complex ideas in writing, you can communicate them more clearly in person.
Deeper expertise. Writing about topics I thought I understood revealed areas where my knowledge was actually surface-level.
New connections. Sharing my writing connected me with people who think about similar challenges but from completely different perspectives.
The most valuable change was in my decision-making. Writing regularly helped me develop a framework for evaluating opportunities. When a potential client or project comes my way, I have clearer criteria for what fits my business.
If you're considering writing to build your brand, I'd encourage you to think beyond the marketing benefits. The internal clarity you'll gain is worth the effort alone.
