Fear of Stupidity

We’ve been so obsessed over what others will think of us, in the process we forget how important stupidity is.

This is something that has been in my mind for a very longtime now. Why do people fear stupidity? We’ve been so obsessed over what others will think of us, in the process we forget how important stupidity is.

I’ll keep saying this, stupid people change the world. Some ideas will be called so stupid and be laughed at and yet have the potential to change the world.

But the people who have the girt and sticky to it are destined for greatness beyond their generation. But what is so sad to me is that, people nowadays are so afraid to do something stupid, and they fall in the trap of always playing it safe.

What if we are not thinking about being judged by them? What if we really have the guts to do something really crazy and not afraid to look stupid?

All these ‘what ifs’ will haunt you for the rest of your lives if you don’t try them out.

I’ll tell you from my personal experience. I’ve failed a lot. A lot. People have mad fun of me to my face countless times. There have been times when I’ve felt like the world's biggest looser.

But that did not stop me from trying what I want. I can live with failure, but not with regret. Neither can you. If you think you can, you are lying to yourself.

If you think this wasn’t hard, think about the cost of regret. Even after getting into a fancy corporate job I’m the same. I keep suggesting ideas that a lot of you might think are absolutely crazy. But guess what? Sometimes people say yes to it.

I might be gifted to have such supporting CXOs above me who put up with my stupidity. Although the reason they do is because of my track record. They all know how much my ideas are worth. Even though they say no to most of it, they still listen. That’s all I ask.

If you are an entrepreneur, employee or the rare bread of stupidpreneurs. Make sure that the people around you understand the values of this stupidity. If not, be around people who value this stupidity.

People who are constantly afraid and do not want to take risks can never do something miraculously great. They can do good work, I agree. But not great work.

It takes a village to start a revolution. And if your company want’s to make a revolution, then make sure you definitely look into doing that that people call stupid.

If not, you can still do meaningful work and have a positive impact to the people around you. But not at scale. And there is nothing wrong in that.

If you’ve asked me a few weeks ago, all I wanted was to teach and live a quiet and happy life with my wife. However, today I still want to do the same and create an army of stupid people across the planet.

I want to make stupidity mainstream and I will.

This might sound funny to you today, but that won’t stop me. Neither should you for your dream and mission. And that’s all I want from all of you. ‘Don’t be afraid to be called stupid’.

Who knows, Harvard or Stanford will make a paper of ‘Professional Stupidity’ and ask me to design the syllabus.
