How to make your brand voice unique

If your brand sounds like everyone else, you're invisible.
I learned this the hard way. My first website? Every single line sounded like it came from a legal department or one of those "Ultimate Guide to Copywriting" PDFs.
I was so worried about sounding "right" that I ended up boring as hell. Result? Tumbleweeds. Spam folder. Not a single real lead for weeks.
One day, a friend sent me a harsh DM: "Dude, this doesn't sound like you at all. Where's the guy I talk to over beers?"
Lit a fire under me instantly.
I went back, torched every stiff phrase, and rewrote my copy the way I'd talk to a buddy after three drinks. Suddenly, people replied. The email list picked up steam. Someone even said, "I feel like you're in my head."
That's power.
Here's what worked for me, and will for you:
- Write your next email/text/social update like you're hitting up your favorite friend.
- Pick three words you want people to FEEL when they see your stuff. (Mine: bold, cheeky, honest.)
- Re-read everything out loud. If it sounds like a robot, hit delete.
- Use stories, jokes, even slang only your tribe will get.
- Test the "three posts" challenge: Would someone recognize your brand voice without a logo?
Inside Brand Engine, you'll get the brand voice cheat sheet I used to punch up every single client project, and every spot of my own funnel.
You want trust? You want fans? Build a voice nobody can mistake for generic.
