The night I realized I built the wrong thing
I had the answers. But asked the wrong questions. Why looking good almost ruined my business.
It started with a single phone call.
Not from a client. Not from an investor. Just my dad.
He said, "Do you even know what you’re doing?"
I had just walked out of a client pitch. My first big one. A sleek presentation. Pixel-perfect deck. All the right buzzwords. I had even memorized the close.
They nodded. They smiled. They passed.
I was pissed. At them. At myself. Mostly myself.
That night, I sat alone in my room — laptop open, Apple Music playing something sad on loop, staring at the same presentation slide.
It hit me.
I had built something impressive. But not useful. All show. No soul. I thought branding was about looking the part. Saying the right things. Playing the game.
But it turns out, people don’t buy polish. They buy clarity.

Clarity is built, not bought.
And that kind of clarity? It doesn’t come from strategy decks or color palettes. It comes from surviving the mess. From being lost, then learning to read your own damn map.
People like us weren’t built in boardrooms. Not backed by institutions. Not born with blueprints. We were built in silence, the kind where you have more questions than answers, and no one to ask.
I used to keep everything in. Not because I was strong. But because I didn’t know who’d get it.
